Core Web Vitals are table stakes. In 2026 the trend is designing FOR speed from the start: system fonts, fewer scripts, compressed media. Fast is the aesthetic.
3. Conversational interfaces
A trained chatbot on your own content has replaced the contact form as the first touchpoint. Visitors expect answers in seconds, not emails in days.
4. Dark mode as standard
Not a gimmick anymore. Users expect your site to respect their system preference. Build both modes from day one.
5. Big type, fewer words
Oversized headlines with ruthless editing. Nobody reads padded paragraphs, and AI summaries mean your page needs to make its point immediately.
6. Real photography over stock
AI-generated sameness has made authentic photos of your actual team, shop, and work a competitive advantage. Trust is the new differentiator.
7. Micro-interactions with restraint
Small hover states and scroll cues that confirm actions. The 2019-era parallax circus is dead, motion now serves function.
8. Accessibility by default
Legal pressure and common sense finally aligned. Proper contrast, keyboard navigation, and alt text are part of professional work, not an add-on invoice.
9. Designing for AI search
People find you through AI assistants now, not just the ten blue links on Google. Clear headings, FAQ sections, and schema markup make your site quotable by AI. This is the newest skill on this list and most sites have not caught up.
What I would skip
Heavy WebGL landing pages, autoplay video backgrounds, and anything that puts a loading spinner between a visitor and your phone number.
